Volunteer Opportunities - No Experience Necessary!

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Premiere Youth Theatre volunteer! Our volunteers are a vital part of our theatre. This dedication and commitment is most beneficial to our students and the offerings we provide them!

Front Of House - General Assistance

  • Box Office/Will Call - Every main stage production requires one to two persons to pull prepaid tickets for patrons who ordered tickets in advance. Collect funds for tickets purchased on the day of the show, providing patrons with available remaining tickets.
  • Ushers - Every main stage production requires two to three ushers to assist patrons.
  • Concessions - Every main stage production requires one to two concession volunteers to sell snacks and beverages.
  • Maintenance - Willingness to assist is always welcome in the areas of clean-up: vacuuming, trash collection, straightening up and the like.
  • Fund Raising - From selling “fan mail” and donor items at the shows to coordinating special events; we can put your talents in the spotlight.
  • Grant Writing - Researching & writing grants to fund special projects, out-reach programming and for general operations for additional support.

Show Production

  • Set Construction and/or Strike Crew - Carpentry, electrical, curtain rigging, etc. for the building of the scenery to designer's specifications. Creative and skilled hands are invited to participate; experience with power tools necessary. Strike Crews disassemble the scenery after the final show with care to recycle materials for future use.
  • Set Decoration/Painting - Painting, furniture covering, sewing of draperies, and other soft goods, repairing or repurposing furniture, etc.
  • Props - gathering and prepping hand and set props: finding them in thrift stores or helping to create them. Crafty skills are welcome but are not required to help out in this area.
  • Prop Running Crew - Setting up props before each show, making changes of props during performances, keeping props in working order, replenishing consumable props. This task can be shared with others during the run of a show; based upon crew members’ availability.
  • Stage Manager - Assists the Artistic Director in a wide range of tasks such as rehearsal set up of furniture and props, crew and cast scheduling, organizational tasks, booth operations during performances. Assignments are matched to an individual's abilities and willingness to learn.
  • Lights - assisting the lighting designer to hang and focus equipment on tech days prior to opening. Possible use of a ladder required. Assignments are matched to an individual's abilities and willingness to learn.
  • Light Board Operator - Runs light board during production; this task is usually assigned to the Stage Manager or another person who has assisted during rehearsals and has extensive knowledge of the show.
  • Follow Spot Operator(s) - Operates a Spotlight during musical performances. Training is provided; the skill is easily acquired.
  • Sound Operator - Runs queued sound effects and music from CDs or other technology, operates the soundboard controlling overhead mics, hardwired mics, body mics, onstage, backstage monitors and in-house speakers. An elevated skills position.
  • Running Crew - Assist in making set changes during productions with other crew or cast members. Requires focus, teamwork and care.

Costumes

  • Costume Designer - Meets with director on design concepts and needs, locates resources for fabric, rental or borrowing of costumes and oversees costume construction team. Sewing skills appreciated but not mandatory.
  • Costume Coordinator - Oversees costume crew if designer cannot. Finds costumes not being made and returns rented or borrowed costumes; maintains costumes during the run including weekly laundry and post-production dry cleaning drop off/pick up.
  • Costume Sewing Team - Construct costumes from patterns or perform minor adjustments such as hemming, tucks, cuffs, buttons, Velcro, snaps, appliques, hot glue, etc. as assigned.
  • Wardrobe Manager - Keeps costumes cleaned, mended and pressed throughout production and manages the costume department in-between productions. These tasks can be shared with others.
